Karen Warner is a Vice President and Licensed Insolvency Trustee practicing in the Financial Recovery Services Group serving the Eastern Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Since 1995, Karen has been helping individuals and businesses get on the road to financial stability. Karen brings an objective, knowledgeable and critical perspective to each situation and specializes in analyzing the financial situation, presenting all possible options and assisting debtors and creditors to negotiate mutually acceptable solutions.
Prior to joining BDO, Karen held positions both at DUCA Credit Union and CIBC bank and has extensive experience in the credit industry. Karen also held a senior position with Canada Revenue Agency and has a comprehensive knowledge of tax laws and collection policies. This perspective has proven invaluable when negotiating and mediating acceptable arrangements for tax arrears.
In addition, Karen was an Official Receiver with the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy for 4 years and gained invaluable expertise in Insolvency Law and Commercial Crime; which included receiving recognition for her contributions from the R.C.M.P. police.
Karen frequently speaks on insolvency topics to various financial institutions and professional organizations, including interviews and media appearances.
Karen enjoys being a mentor and sponsor for the CIRP Qualification Program preparing candidates for the Competency-based National Insolvency Exam and has participated in the Examination Appeals process. Additionally, she has assisted the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals with their Special Investigations, to ensure members comply with the Standards of Professional Practice.
